Grandpa Has Been There Before

Grandpa Has Been There Before

Norwegian Roots

It’s fantastic when worlds come together around the importance of having a grandpa in our lives. My friend Lisa lives in Norway and she sent sent this song/poem that beautifully acknowledges that very thing.

As I listened to the music and read the translated words, I remembered that our mutual friend Marc visited his ancestral roots in Norway a few years ago as well. While there, he and his father John, rediscovered Marc’s grandpa’s childhood home. It must have been a special time. We hope you enjoy the picture and the verse.

A Grandfather In One’s Life

A living grandfather all should have in life
A Grandpa to run to
Who always wants a cup of coffee
With time to waste on a small person
Yes, a living grandfather all should have in life

A living grandfather all should have in life
One to turn to
For answers to everything you wonder about
In Grandpa´s boathouse advice can be had
Yes, a living grandfather all should have in life

A grandfather in overalls all should have
Smelling of diesel and seasalt
With pockets full of old scrap
Everything you need can be found in Grandpa´s mess
Yes, a living grandfather all should have in life

A grandfather’s lap is good to have
For Grandpa has been there before
All of his life lies before your´s
If you ask, yes, Grandpa, he shows the way
Yes, a living grandfather all should have in life
